Welcome to the Riding2up News Update

Welcome to our first news update for the Riding2up adventure as we embark on the experience of a life-time riding together from Sydney to Oslo by motorcycle.

Test Ride

We are taking off on our 5 day test run starting Wednesday evening and packing everything we will need for our Riding2up adventure. This will be the true test of our ability to live on the road and give us an opportunity to trial out all our equipment and find any issues and things that we are missing.
The reality and magnitude of this adventure is starting to set in as we pack in preparation for the test run to Central tablelands and Mid North coast of NSW. Over five days and nights we will be camping and riding through various terrains and climates from Sydney to Barrington Tops, Werrimkee NP and Myall Lakes, covering over 1,000kms in a bid put ourselvs and our gear to the test.

 Preparations

As far as preparations for the bike go the key pieces are all there, it's now just a matter of refining, tuning, getting the final touches and gaining experience in riding and critical maintenance.
The point of no return is nigh, the catalyst being the successful outcome of our test run and then the resignation from work. The Riding2up snowball is now gaining momentum and size as we have set our departure date for 25th November.

 Farewell BBQ

In lieu of a separate farewell party we are holding a BBQ & Barefoot bowls fundraiser event at our local bowls club on Sunday 9th of November from 1pm so please join us as we prepare for our departure. View your invitation (also attached) to our farewell event here.

Thank you for your continued support and interest in our adventure and we look forward to seeing you on Sunday 9th November.

October Riding2update - issue 2

Welcome to the second news update from Pascal & Arja (the Riding2up team) where you can follow our motorcycling adventure from your lounge chair or office desk as we rind* from Sydney to Oslo by motorcycle (on the one bike!).

First of all thank you to everyone who has continued to show their support and sponsor, bet or donate to Riding2up, your encouragement is greatly appreciated.

 Test Ride a resounding Success

The 5 day test run from October 2nd to 6th where we packed everything we would need for our Riding2up adventure was not entirely smooth but overall a success. This is because we can't expect our trip to go without incident and each little bump (roadkill) in the road or impasse (getting bogged in the Myall Lakes sand dunes) just strengthens our resolve and cements our determination to keep pressing on, even if Pascal was cursing at the time... This was a very good test of our gear and ability to live on the road and it also showed us what was missing, which is arguably more important. So you asking what was missing? Well for one sufficient water storage for both our needs, better all-weather motorcycling gear, a helmet intercom system and summer gloves along with a few extra spare parts and a couple more tools. All of which we have since acquired. For a brief run-down of the test run visit our website www.riding2up.net

 Preparations & Planning
Finalising the preparations and sorting all the paperwork out is proving to be quite time consuming and as our departure date (25th Nov) now looms over us. It is all becoming quite overwhelming both in the quantity of work and the levels of excitement. Obviously it is important to keep focus as we don't want to forget anything as we follow our plan.

At this stage our hopes of entering Burma have been all but dashed as there is no exit route through to India or China due to borders being closed. This has meant the first major revisit of our itinerary and probably not the last. See our website for the latest route and trip planning details. For all of you interested in the itinerary we will post a tentative one up on the site but be aware it is a moving beast and we fully expect (as any good project manager will tell you) last minute changes as we start rolling.

 Farewell BBQ & Bowls
BBQ & Barefoot bowls fundraiser is on Sunday 9th of November from 1pm so if you haven't RSVP'ed yet then make sure you do by Oct 25th to ensure you don't go hungry.

Thank you for your continued support and interest in our adventure and we look forward to seeing you on Sunday 9th November.
