Our original overland route had us go through Vietnam and China. After countless months of preparation and planning we thought we would be able to find away against all recommendations and experiences of other riders, to get into China and Vietnam.
Afteral we weren't going to fork out for the astronomical figure quoted to us by several separate travel agencies organising tours in China for the importation of Francois. That was absurd, there had to be another way. We searched high and low, looking to join other tours taking their own vehicles into China but it was all in vain. Call it communism or just daylight robbery we would rather change our plan then give our hard-earnt cash to the Chinese.
As with all things out of our control the planned itinerary was changed and rather than travel through the middle kingdom and central asia we went back to Bangkok and flew to Kathmandu.
The real adventure would only begin once we let go of our original plans and cut our losses and concentrated on what new adventures lay ahead in Nepal, India, Pakistan and beyond...

With the promise of the Himalayas and Tibetan culture the Chinese fiasco was long forgotten. From Bangkok to Kathmandu we flew and air freighted Francois. A whole new array of travel options and destinations opened up and we found ourselves busily planning our new route through Nepal, India and Pakistan.
Amongst other amazing experiences we trekked the Poon Hill Circuit of the Annapurna Conservation area, rode over Kardung-La at 5608m in Ladhak and visited the Unesco site of Uch Sharif in Pakistan. These experiences and many others need to be lived to be believed and to this day are the most memorable of our entire trip and without the change to our itinerary we may never have had these opportunities.
